KB RE-INVENTS HERSELF ON

LATEST ALBUM

Thanduxolo Buti                                               15 August 2011

KB continues to re invent her sound with every album and as a result people struggle to put her in a certain box when it comes to genre. With the very powerful title “Run Free: The Evolution” and a striking album cover It’s hard to miss KB’s latest album.

In this album KB goes back to her old school sounds that turned her into a star. She mixes the sound with some live instruments that she explored on her albums “My Rhythm” and “Ke Mosadi”. These sounds mixed together give the latest album some colour and edge that makes it stand out from all her other albums.

The first single “My Way” featuring Tuks is very easy in the ear with a very intoxicating electric guitar mixed with Tuks Motswako flavour. Most of the Tracks have a “deep House” feel without losing that KB sound to give the Mmamosadi flavour. Other songs that shine are “Seo Seo Ft Seabelo, Let It Go and Run free.

This album is a clear indication that KB is serious about her craft and as an Icon she continues to up her game whether behind the microphone or on our TV screens.

It’s a “Thirstday” night!

Sibongile Mabena                                                                                                 12 August 2011

Thursday nights will not be the same for Soshanguve residents; this is after the Sosh Mayhem under the Macnose label  launched the“Thirstday” Comedy Jamboree. The launch was held at Short Left in Soshanguve Block K and people came in numbers.  The theme of the night was “Laughing out loud is the order of the night” and it sure was the order of the night.

The line-up included Strictly Vernac’s Schoolboy and a guest comedian, Salesman, who kept us laughing with their funny jokes. The event started with Salesman who cracked his jokes in Sepedi followed by Schoolboy who catered for all languages.

The organiser Phumlani Ngubeni said that the aim of the initiative was to cater for different markets in the community since their label is known for playing deep house music without entertainment. “We are trying to keep people from going to other places for entertainment whilst we have people in our community who have the talent to make us laugh.”

The shows are not for the faint hearted because the comedians made fun of people from within the crowd and so if you know you are sensitive, do not go there!

''THE ARROWS'' The New Pop Phenomenal

Thandoxulo Buti                                                                         05 August 2011

Remember the tune for the KFC advert that had everyone singing along as soon as the ad came on? Well many people I’m sure are un-aware that the song belongs to a duo from Durban named “The Arrows”. The Arrows is made out of two young ladies named Pam and Christie. Christie who majored in jazz at the Cape Town University and Pam who has been playing drums since the age of four.

They captured the world after releasing their self titled EP that saw them touring nationally and internationally. Eventually they signed with Universal records, and soon after their Debut album followed. The album titled “Make Believe” after their favourite song on the album has been getting rave reviews since its release. It includes some of their old songs and a couple of new ones which include the smash hit “love sick”.

These days where all songs on the radio sounds the same, The Arrows have managed to break the norm with their pop tunes laced with Christie’s jazzy voice. With their unique style and ecliptic sound this group has managed to capture the crossover appeal within a short space of time, bringing hope to the struggling South African music industry.

Katlego Legodi                                                                                                                01 August 2011

What started as an ambition between two friends became a reality on Friday when they launched two clothing labels (Yo Baba and Y Vele), under their company No Budget.

These two Tshwane University of Technology students Thabo “Tash” Matabane and Johannes “Sly” Letebele took an oath to become ambassadors of change in venturing in the business market to help Happy Orphanage situated in Block H Soshanguve in raising funds to assist with their basic needs.

The launch started bad with less people than anticipated but picked up when time went by. With a sad face Sly said “I am quite disappointed in the turnout but just glad that with the little we gained from this, we will put it to good use”.

The No Budget company is a company that acts as a voice to young entrepreneurs to engage and share business ideas and how they can actually become agents of changeIt aims at going into entertainment and becoming a modeling agency in the future. Working on changing the mind set of young and impatient DREAMERS who feel limited to achieve their DREAMS, the launch was a step for many to come.
